Is my furniture worth recovering?

Furniture Matters® recently upholstered a love seat that was manufactured in Indiana, in the early 70’s.
It is constructed of solid ¾” alder with no knots.  It has corner blocks glued and stapled. 7/16” double dowels at the butt joints. 9 gauge 4” coil springs, on 6” centers locked in
9 gauge border wire, hung on 20 gauge flat spring steel, with cotton felting.
The “craftsmen” of the time, said this 1973 was JUNK.  They were still using, tendons, dovetails and full corner blocks.  Only Oak, Walnut or other true hardwoods were acceptable. 8 way hand tied, 8” coil springs compressed to 4”, sewn to jute webbing, then covered with rubberized hair, and cotton batting, held in place with muslin before adding the fabric.  Similarly crafted furniture served 3 or more generations.  The love seat sold for“ a lot of money” back then,  moderately priced at $500.00.  The affordable Retail pricing was made possible by mass production methods and with cost cutting in mind.
Furniture Matters® recovered this love seat for the original Posey County owner.  It has been in continuous service for these past 30 years.  Never have any repairs been required for it!
It will no doubt continue for 30 more years.
Tip it over, remove the bottom cover and see what you have.
You know how it has performed over the years.
Let us help you to get the most from your home and or office furnishing budget.
By appointment only.

How do I know what cleaning products are safe for my furniture?

If you have purchased a 'Fabric Protection' agreement refer to the information provided
BEFORE proceeding with cleaning attempt.

Furniture Matters® recommends that you contact a local professional upholstery cleaning company for service. If you want to “do it yourself”, make sure to refer to the cleaning code that is attached to the area below the seat cushions,
or attached to the bottom of your furniture.
Or contact your Dealer, to determine the accepted cleaning method.

Cleaning Codes :
W – Use a water-based or foam cleaning solvent
S – Use a mild, water-free dry cleaning solvent
WS – Use either a water-based cleaning solvent, a dry cleaning solvent or foam cleaner
X – Vacuum or brush lightly to remove soil

Cleaning Methods:
PRE-TEST ANY CLEANING ATTEMPT IN A NON-CONSPICUOUS AREA
Always wet the area from outside the stain toward the center of the stain so it won't 'bleed' out at edges..

Spot removers -- This works well on carpeting as well as upholstery. A hard spot such as grape juice or wine that has gone unnoticed for a few days can actually be treated with this cleaner. Spray it and allow it to soak in, use a cloth to gently rub the stain,
allow it to dry, then just vacuum away.

Foam cleaners -- It may look like whipped cream when sprayed on,
but this type of cleaner is very effective. Again, spray on the affected area,
allow to soak in and dry, then vacuum away.

High-concentration chemical-based cleaners -- Be sure to use rubber gloves and keep the area well ventilated. This type of cleaner can address stains from magic markers. Just soak a rag with the cleaner and blot the stain.  Allow to set for around 10 minutes, then wipe clean. The stain will come out nine out of 10 times.

Citrus-based cleaners --These are great for food stains. Remove and blot up as much of the stain as you can with a towel, then spray on the cleaner. Wipe up the area. It may take several applications to remove the food stain, but this is quite an effective product for recent stains, not ones that have set in for several hours or days.

Steam-sprayer rental machines -- These machines can be a wonderful alternative to calling in a professional cleaner. Ranging in price from $25 to $40, they can be effective on fresh or old stains.

Does my furniture have any need for maintenance?

Y E S
Furniture Matters® encourages you to use the vacuum upholstery hose and
attachments to do frequent vacuuming of the fabric.
Also turn the piece upside down, tipping it over forward, to vacuum the underside.
You may find that 'lost' remote.
Inspect for loose bolts and wearing places [shiny metal] on mechanisms.
It is a good idea to clean under reclining furniture to prevent a black build-up on floor/carpet.
Once a week, rotate seats for even wear and 'fluff' the back cushions to maintain shape.
NEVER machine wash zippered cushion covers.
Wood trim should be dusted and treated with a furniture polish also.

Who makes the 'BEST' furniture?

Generally the higher priced line is a better constructed offering.
Today's manufacturers are producing very similar products.
Each one has reasons why theirs is better. Go to their web page and read about it.
Most have a line of locally produced as well as imported furnishings.
They are using ‘furniture grade laminates’  and particle board for the framework.
Some do use solid hardwoods for stress areas like seat spring rails.
Most use polyurethane foam for seating and loose-fill Dacron for back cushion padding.
A few offer down/feather padding.
So;
Furniture Matters® says,” Which is better, FORD or CHEVY?”
Purchasing your furniture from a Retailer that will honor warranty service
is how you can get 'the best'.
The factory makes the furnishing the dealer makes the difference.
Go to one of our listed  Retailers  and let them help you choose what fits your lifestyle,
use and comfort expectations and is the texture and color you like.
That is the “BEST ONE” for you.

What brand has the best quality?

MANUFACTURERS  that we affiliate with have a ‘Limited Life Time’ warranty
Most consider 7 years to be the expected life of furniture.
Metal parts of reclining and stationary furniture is 5 - 7 years.
Wooden framing components from 3 to 7 years.
Loosefill and polyurethane foam, padding components are 1 to 3 years.
Fabric and Leather coverings are 1 year.
LABOR is limited to 1[one] year from date of purchase.

HOWEVER
Time limits may increase for certain styles and coverings and if specified on invoice.
Furniture Matters® advises you to read the product's warranty while at the DEALER .
Ask questions like,
“Who will service our furniture if a concern arises?” Is ‘In-home’ service offered?
Who will do the furniture repair? Do they have a web site to see information about them?
